Check the plug for any fatigue or damage making sure the live and neutral terminals have insulated sheaving (as shown in the picture opposite) and then remove the top cover.

 

Check that all terminal screws are tight and griping the inner copper strands correctly. Also making sure the flex grip is securely holding the flex on the outer insulation.

Check inside the plug for any fatigue or damage to the wires and that the Earth, Live and Neutral polarity is correct, (as shown in the diagram opposite) making sure the fuse is the right rating for the appliance.

IEE regulations state  that an appliance rated below 700W should  have a 3 Amp fuse fitted and any appliance that is rated greater than 700W should have a 13 Amp fuse fitted.

Replace the cover and check that the flex clamp is correctly tightened.

(Not too tight so as to crush the flex)
